coComment rocks!
Do you know coComment? If you recently browsed around the blogosphere you surely came across it. It is an online service that tracks your comments or rather whole conversations on blogs.
There was a lot of buzz around coComment some weeks ago but I didn’t really notice how cool it is. I just stumbled across it again and this time took a deeper look at it. Now I’m using it since a few days and hey – it’s really damn cool!
The only things you need to do to get started are:
- Install the Firefox extension (Internet Explorer extension coming soon – Flock extension can be found here)
- Start commenting on blogs, flickr and so on! The number of supported systems is constantly increasing
- If you are using an unsupported software on your website, go and enable it on your own!
I know I’m repeating it, but I don’t give a damn: coComment is very cool and handy! If you’re not sure if you can find a use for it: Just try it out. It costs you less than five minutes to set it up and works smoothly in the background.
The most important new icons you’ll see in your status bar:
Default. Simply click on the icon to go to ‘Your conversations’ page
Extension detected a supported blog page
New comments related to you are available
Well, how does it actually work?
You’ve got the coComment extension enabled and you’re browsing the web – you’ll see icon number one: ![]()
You’re visiting a blog page like this one – there’s a possibility to leave a comment. If the coComment extension enabled in your browser detects this blog page as a “supported” one, it displays another icon as well: ![]()
Simply write your comment as usual and post it – the extension does all the work for you and sends your comment to the coComment website. If you like to, you can specify tags for your comment before posting it.
Well, you posted your comment and it’s being displayed on the blog page. Remember how it was before? To keep track of the conversation you had to visit the blog page over and over again. That’s a thing of the past now! While you’re browsing the web, coComment keeps constantly checking for new comments. When there are new comments on your conversations, you’ll see another icon in your statusbar:
A click on it opens your “conversations” page at the coComment.com website – and there you have it, all your conversations tracked in a list together with a link to the original page for you to read and maybe answer as well.
Enjoy!
