Quicktip: QuickShareIt

QuickShareIt logo

A nice tool I found somewhere on the web via dayforapp lately: QuickShareIt.

Share files with anyone with an internet connection by simply dragging one or more files onto QuickShareIt’s dock icon on your mac—if you drop multiple files they’ll get zipped. As soon as uploading is finished QuickShareIt notifies you via Growl and copies the URL to your clipboard—ready to be pasted into an e-mail or IM chat.

QuickShareIt stores shared files at least for 90 days on it’s servers. Therefore it’s a nice tool for rapid file sharing with friends and co-workers, but since you can’t delete your files it’s not safe to use it for data that’s better kept hidden away.

    Hi Miha,

just tried it with a 20 MB file and obviously you’re right. :-(

But I didn’t find any limitation in their FAQ‚Ķ

    I just e-mailed them‚Äîmaybe we’ll know more soon‚Ķ ;-)

    Wow, they’re pretty fast:

    Hey Julian,

Yes, we do have a file-limit of 10MB although, it’s an unintentional
limit. It’s a very large bug that we’re working on fixing in the
upcoming beta which should be out soon.

We’ll be releasing a lot of new features in the upcoming beta 5,
including account managment. (So you can delete your important files)
Along with some other cool features that we’re sure everyone will
    love.

    Keep an eye out soon!

    Thanks

If we’re fortunate, this issue should be fixed soon.

I’m looking for a quite similar software for windows. Anyone has an idea?

One of your Windows using friends is going to ask you if there is a Windows version, or if one is coming. Direct your friend to http://www.apple.com/getamac. We have no intentions of supporting Windows or Linux in the foreseeable future.

This is the statement of QuickShareIt’s makers‚Äîbut seriously though, does anyone know an alternative for our Windows-using friends? Alas I don’t know one, since I don’t use Windows anymore.
